Santa
Barbara based fine furniture designer and builder, Blaine Taylor's
work is acclaimed both nationally and internationally.
Prior
to establishing his design studio in Santa Barbara, Taylor
lived and worked throughout the South of France .Taylor's
extensive training includes a degree from the prestigious
Abbe' Boisard Institute of Design followed by a coveted apprenticeship
with renowned French Ebeniste, Jean-Michel Cathiard.
It was during his years of study in France that Taylor perfected
his skills in centuries old techniques such as; joinery, classical
French Polish, inlay, woodturning, woodcarving and antique restoration.
Taylor's technical training is balanced with a broad and studied
aesthetic. The six years Taylor lived in Europe, he fully immersed
himself in the history, culture and language of France. This rich
cultural foundation is a constant source of inspiration and dictates
much of Taylor's work. He did not simply learn to build exquisite
replicas of centuries old antiques, but was also privileged enough
to be surrounded by them and engulfed in the history and architecture
that originally inspired such works of art.
Although passionate about European period furniture, Taylor's portfolio
includes commissions ranging from ornate Gothic to rustic French
Country and clean, precise contemporary. Taylor is committed to
using eco-friendly local and FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council)
certified wood and, whenever possible, non-toxic finishing products.
